Eilean Donan Castle

A truly iconic Scottish castle, set amongst the stunningly beautiful Highlands. Often featured in television and print, this epic stronghold was originally built in the 13th century and upgraded through the centuries. What a lot of people don’t realise is that the original building was destroyed in the 17th century and it wasn’t until the 20th century that it was rebuilt to what we see today. The footbridge was also an additional structure which did not exist originally, so access may have been by boat only. I took this photograph in 2007.
